campFIRE WATERhole
Artist Frances Harrison (Gunai Yuin Monaro), community leader and cultural adviser Lennie Hayes (Gunai Bidawal) and non Indigenous artist Catherine Larkins, were commissioned by Gippsland Lakes Complete Health and Lakes Entrance Aboriginal Health Association to design and make two interrelated art works for the Lakes Entrance community health precinct. Construction of the site-specific art works brought together metal sculptor Gary Belskyj and many other participants from the Aboriginal and broader communities of Lakes Entrance to assist. Fire and water are powerful healing elements in Aboriginal culture and the Camp Fire and Water Hole have created important, permanent healing sites within the health centre precinct.
